Cooter Brown came into our rescue program on December 16, 2014. Cooter Brown came into our rescue program from the Oklahoma City Animal Welfare Division along with 7 other horses as a cruelty case. Cooter Brown is a Beautiful, Brown, Quarter Horse, Gelding. Cooter Brown is estimated to be 4 years of age. He is a sweet boy and loves attention. He is Halter Broke and Broke to lead. He stands for the farrier, but does need some work on picking up his hind feet and loads in the trailer. He stands at 14 hands tall. Cooter Brown has a current negative coggins, up to date on vaccinations, deworming and hoof maintenance. Cooter Brown was picked for our 5th Annual Blaze's Ride to the Rescue Trainer Challenge. He was chosen by Adult Trainer Ken Hallam. Ken will be working with Cooter Brown for the next 120 days, turning Cooter Brown into a dependable riding companion. Ken will be going against 9 Trainers in our Trainer's Challenge. We also have 7 Youth Trainers competing in our Trainer's Challenge. Competition is set for May 21, 2016 at the Lazy E Arena, Guthrie, Oklahoma. Blaze's Ride to the Rescue Trainer Challenge. Cooter Brown will be available for adoption throughout the competition on May 21, 2016 through an all day silent auction. Cooter Brown has also been freeze branded for his protection. Update March 2016 Team Cooter Brown is coming along wonderfully. This is a great horse and certainly one you don't want to miss out on. Available for Adoption on May 21st, 2016 to pre-approved adopters through a Silent Auction. All bids start at $800.00 on the day of the event ONLY. The average cost to send a horse to training is $700.00 a month. These horses went into training on January 9, 2016 and was trained thru May 21, 2016. That is 5 months of training. These horses have received $3000.00 to $3500.00 worth of training! Trust me when I say, you are stealing these horses at an adoption fee of $800.00 to $1200.00. Despite the countless hours of training, grooming, and care that was provided by the Trainer. These horses also received countless hours of rehabilitation, saving their life, providing full medical care, farrier care, quarantine, etc., Show me where you can a find horse, fully up to date on coggins, medical/farrier care, nutritional care and 5 months of training at the rate these horses are being offered for adoption? I know a lot of people get caught up on saving a horses life, whether from the kill pen, etc., It's always about the Urgent ones! Cooter Brown and many others waiting for a forever, loving home were all urgent once. They came here and their lives were forever changed. Help us, help them find the forever, loving home they deserve. Update May 30, 2016 Cooter Brown is now seeking his forever, loving home. This sweet boy was overlooked at our Trainer's Challenge. Cooter Brown will make someone an excellent kids horse, possible play day horse. He is very tolerant and has a level head on his shoulders. He is a very calm boy and has so much potential. He would also be just as great as a pleasure horse/trail horse. Cooter stands around 13.2/14 hands tall. He would be best suited for a kid or small adult, since he isn't a large boy. Since returning to the rescue and settling back in after the challenge, several of our volunteers and family have ridden Cooter Brown. He truly is a great horse and has so much potential. This video does not show close up, what is important to notice. You may be watching this video and see hesitation or a scared horse, while Ken is bending down to pick up his rope. What you may not notice is, Ken accidentally spurred Cooter Brown 3 times in his flank before Cooter finally reacted with that mild hiccup. While you may think that Cooter wasn't compliant. We see a very tolerant horse, that tried to do what was asked, but by the 3rd time, he didn't understand what was being asked of him. Cooter Brown connected that rope to the spur, which is why he later didn't want to have that rope on him. When you watch that video, just remember how other horses may have reacted to that. Cooter Brown is a super sweet boy and has so much to offer. We changed the format of our Trainer's Challenge 2 years ago, because we wanted to highlight the horses strengths not their weaknesses. We felt that the trainer's knew best, since they have been training them for the last 5 months, of what their strengths were. Please don't focus on the Video's of Cooter Brown and judge his potential based on his performance. Cooter has so much more to offer than what we are seeing here. As stated by Ray Hunt, horseman "Feel your horse. How does he make that bend? Is he rigid? Is he tight? Is he mellow? Is he lazy? There's a lot of things going on in there if you'll listen to him. We don't notice near enough of the good things, we just take them for granted. We do way too much physically." "People have to learn that whatever the horse does is right. You're the one who got into his life....he didn't get into yours. It's amazing what the horse will go through to satisfy a human being." "There will be discouraging times, but you need to accept them, make the best of them and go on. We have to accept some things {are} not working so we know we don't have to keep doing them. We have to accept defeat to gain success. It's a way of life." We firmly believe the horse is never wrong. Cooter Brown is an awesome little horse that has a lot of try. He just needs a family that will give him the small rewards for all his efforts and build up to what you are asking for him. He will give you 110%, if he understands what you want. Update July 2016 Cooter Brown has spent the last 3 weeks with Trainer Greg Morris for some fine tuning. Cooter Brown is an awesome little horse and a heart of gold. He has a lot of try and will make someone an excellent trail horse, pleasure horse, or even a performance/play day horse. This little guy just wants a family to call his own and he is ready to go any direction you want to take him. Cooter Brown is a solid little horse, no buck in him. Update March 2017 Cooter Brown has returned to our rescue program at no fault of his own. He is now seeking his forever, loving home again. Cooter Brown is a super cute and super sweet gelding. He has gone through several training during the Trainer Challenge in 2016, also went to Horse Trainer Greg Morris for some finishing touches. He has been ridden on many trail rides. Cooter Brown is a solid little horse with a big heart and ready for a job. He would be great for a younger, confident kid, who is looking for that next step horse, that would like to do some play days/trail rides/all around pleasure horse. He will continue to be ridden by Horse Trainer Kelci Goad while he is here waiting for the right family. This super sweet boy stands for the farrier and loads in a trailer.
